Part of our complete guide: Madeira webcams: 18 live streams from across the island

What you see
Mostly water, and that’s the point. Funchal has no sand beach — you swim from concrete platforms and ladders, and whether that is pleasant or unpleasant is decided entirely by the swell. In a southerly the sets come in against the platforms and the bathing complexes put out the red flag.
That is exactly what this shows, and better than any wave forecast: whether the water is glassy today or capped with white.
When it’s best
Mornings. Wind builds through the day on Madeira; the sea is calmest early. If you’re planning to snorkel or dive, decide before breakfast.
Watch it or go?
For swimming, go elsewhere. The concrete platforms in Funchal are practical, but nobody comes to the island for them. The better spots are east at Caniço and west at Calheta — both with their own camera.
