What you see
Depending on where it has swung: the promenade between the marina and the museum, the water, the houses stacked up the slope, and in good weather the ridge behind the city. Because the picture moves, it’s worth letting it run for a minute or two rather than glancing at it.
The museum itself — devoted to the island’s most famous son, who grew up three streets away — is directly behind the camera and therefore never in shot.
When it’s best
Daytime. Being the only camera here that pans, it also shows the mountain side, and with it the question you cannot answer from sea level: is the lid sitting on the peaks, or is it clear up there?
Watch it or go?
The museum: for football fans only, but they’ll enjoy it. For everyone else the Praca do Mar is somewhere you pass through on the way to the marina — pleasant, not a destination.
This camera drops out more often than the others. If you get a notice instead of a picture, the operator isn’t broadcasting; it usually comes back on its own.
