What you see
The marina sits in the middle of Funchal, below the Avenida do Mar. What crosses the frame is trip catamarans, sailing yachts staging for the Caribbean, and the replica of the Santa Maria, which you will recognise instantly from the Columbus rigging. The big cruise ships don’t dock here — they berth next door at the Pontinha.
When it’s best
Late afternoon. The cameras face roughly south to south-west, so evening light comes in from the right and the harbour takes on a warmth it simply doesn’t have at midday. Around noon the sun sits in frame and everything looks flat and blown out.

Watch it or go?
Go. The marina isn’t a destination, it’s where you end up in Funchal anyway — five minutes from the old town, right on the promenade. The camera’s real use comes earlier: it shows whether the wind will turn today’s boat trip into a wet one.
