On the right the coast breaks into a wall that shelters the town from the west \u2014 the same wall that gives it its weather.<\/p>\n<h2>When it&#8217;s best<\/h2>\n<p>When things look bad everywhere else. That is the entire point of this camera: when Funchal is under low cloud and the day looks lost, it shows blue sky here surprisingly often. Forty minutes&#8217; drive, different weather.<\/p>\n<p>Second-best is sunset. The camera faces south-west and the sun goes down in frame.<\/p>\n<h2>Watch it or go?<\/h2>\n<p>Go \u2014 but as plan B, not plan A. Ponta do Sol isn&#8217;t a sight, it&#8217;s a quiet town with a shingle beach, a few cafes on the water and dependable light. Exactly right for a day when the north is drowning.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re already there: the Levada do Moinho starts above the town, and <a href=\"\/en\/calheta-beach-webcam\/\">Calheta<\/a>, with the only sand beach in the area, is twenty minutes on.
