What crosses the frame is trip catamarans, sailing yachts staging for the Caribbean, and the replica of the Santa Maria, which you will recognise instantly from the Columbus rigging. The big cruise ships don&#8217;t dock here \u2014 they berth next door at the <a href=\"\/en\/funchal-harbour-webcam\/\">Pontinha<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>When it&#8217;s best<\/h2>\n<p>Late afternoon. The cameras face roughly south to south-west, so evening light comes in from the right and the harbour takes on a warmth it simply doesn&#8217;t have at midday. Around noon the sun sits in frame and everything looks flat and blown out.<\/p>\n<p>If you want to know whether boats are going out today: in a strong southerly the trip boats stay in, and you&#8217;ll see that here before any weather site tells you.<\/p>\n<h2>Watch it or go?<\/h2>\n<p>Go. The marina isn&#8217;t a destination, it&#8217;s where you end up in Funchal anyway \u2014 five minutes from the old town, right on the promenade.
